    Charlene A. Carruthers is the national director of BYP100. She leads our day-to-day organizing, leadership & fund development efforts.

      Jessica PierceNational Co-Chair, Washington, DC

      Jessica Pierce is the national co-chair of the BYP100 Coordinating Council. She leads our infrastructure, capacity building and internal training efforts.

      Our National Coordinating Council Members

      The BYP100 Coordinating Council represents the interests of our general membership and serves as our primary governing body. Our Coordinating Council is comprised of our national director, national co-chairs and council members.

      • Angie Brilliance
        Angie BrillianceCoordinating Council Members - Chicago, IL

        Angie is a community organizer, teacher, aesthetic designer and coder from the South side of Chicago. She provides a young, radical, Black, queer, feminist analysis rooted in the fight for Black Liberation and freedom for all oppressed people.

        • Cedric Lawson
          Cedric LawsonCoordinating Council Members - Washington, DC

          Cedric Lawson is an organizer whose skill set includes legislative advocacy, electoral and field organizing; and fundraising. Cedric is currently a field associate with the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights.

          • Jeff Roman
            Jeff RomanCoordinating Council Members - Milwaukee, WI

            Jeffery develops cross systems collaborations that engage, support and empower Black boys and men, and strengthening families of color. He is engaged Black Male Achievement, fatherhood and racial equity initiatives. Jeffery is a city commissioner and chairs the City of Milwaukee Equal Rights Commission.

              Jonathan LykesCoordinating Council Members - Washington, DC

              Jonathan is a Black queer artist, activist and policy analyst. He has been a community organizer in Mumbai, India, Cape Town, South Africa and now works in D.C. as BYP100 Chapter Co-chair.

              • Rose Afriyie

                      Imani Brown is an organizer and writer from Trinidad and Tobago. She loves cooking, dancing, and Black people.

                        Janaé E. BonsuChicago Chapter, Co-Chair

                        Janaé ensures the Chicago chapter operates effectively and efficiently by setting all meeting agendas, coordinating and maintaining all chapter infrastructure components, and shepherding a full functioning core leadership team. Also figuring out capacity and responsively checking in with deadlines and follow through.

                            Malcolm London, called the Gil-Scott Heron of this generation by Cornel West, is an internationally recognized Chicago poet, organizer & educator.

                              Mwende “FreeQuency” KatwiwaNew Orleans Chapter, Co-Chair
                              Mwende Katwiwa is the Co-Chair of the New Orleans chapter of BYP100. She leads the local organizing and capacity building efforts in New Orleans.
