Contract Position

Locations: Chicago, IL; Detroit, MI; New Orleans, LA

Duration: 6 Months

Pay Rate: $1400-$2800/month (dependent on time commitment)

 As a membership organization in the fight for Black liberation, transformative leadership development has and will always be at the heart of BYP100’s work. This year, we will launch our Organizing Fellowship program to develop the leadership and organizing skills of a cohort of fellows committed to the work of Black liberation. Fellows will each work with a specific BYP100 chapter, deepen their understanding of the art of organizing, and receive training & skill development in campaign development, outreach, and direct action organizing.

 Summary of Role:

 The BYP100 Organizing Fellowship will begin as a 6-month contract position in Chicago, Detroit, and New Orleans. Fellows will be assigned to a specific project within their local chapter and will work with chapter leadership and BYP100 organizing staff to identify goals, a work plan, and mechanisms for support. Fellows will be expected to co-coordinate chapter organizing, research, and outreach strategies related to their project. Fellows will receive training in campaign development, base building and outreach, and direct action at the start of the Fellowship. Fellows can expect to receive further support from the Staff Organizing Team, who will support the fellows in a supervisory capacity.

 Key Responsibilities

  • Work with national staff & local leadership to develop a relevant set of goals and workplan with chapter
  • Regular attendance at and involvement in local chapter meetings and activities
  • Coordinate relevant outreach efforts
  • Submit monthly field reports
  • Development of outreach and educational materials such as raps, flyers, talking points and action cards
  • Coordination and planning of strategy in specific project area
  • Implementation of tactics and activities to engage members and allies in campaign or project area

 Desired Skills & Experience

  • Demonstrated leadership experience
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Commitment to working from a Black Queer Feminist lens
  • Working knowledge of local organizing & political landscape
  • Experience organizing in Black communities
  • Ability to work well under pressure and manage time effectively
